Clare Hurst
Deputy Vice President of the Society

Clare is Deputy Centre Director of North East Law Centre (a not for profit registered charity) and specialises in asylum, immigration and human rights law. After qualifying as a Solicitor in private practice, Clare joined Newcastle Law Centre (now North East) in 2006 as an Immigration Solicitor, became Senior Solicitor of the Law Centre in 2012 and Deputy Centre Director in 2020. Clare has extensive experience of legal aid and the creation of innovative grant funded projects around free immigration advice delivery focusing on more holistic legal advice provision for asylum seekers, refugees and migrants.
Clare is passionate about access to justice, with a particular interest in the rights of women, and continues to participate in local and national research to promote change in the sector.
Clare is also an Assessor for the Law Society on the Immigration and Asylum Accreditation Scheme. Clare was previously a member of the Steering Group and subsequently Chair of Rainbow Home (an LGBTQ+ local organisation) and helped to secure its charitable status.
Outside of work, Clare is a season ticket holder at Newcastle United Women and enjoys cycling, travelling, the theatre and spending time with her family.
