About

About

2026 marks a truly momentous milestone for The Newcastle and North of England Society as we begin our Bicentennial year — 200 years since our founding in 1826, just one year after The Law Society. As one of the oldest regional law societies in England, we are proud of our long-standing legacy of professionalism, service, and community.

This historic year is also one of exciting change and growth. Following the coming together of Tees Valley Law Society and Carlisle & District Law Society, we are proud to move forward under our new name: The Newcastle & North of England Law Society — a Society that reflects the breadth, strength, and diversity of the legal profession across our region.

What began as a small association of local solicitors has evolved into a dynamic professional body representing a forward-thinking legal community. For two centuries, the Society has championed the rule of law, professional excellence, and the development of a strong, ethical, and prosperous legal sector throughout the North of England.

As we celebrate 200 years of achievement, we do so with pride in our past and optimism for the future. With an exciting programme of events, CPD seminars and celebrations planned for 2026/27, now is a fantastic time to become a member of the Society and be part of this landmark chapter in our history. Information about our membership categories can be found on our website together with the evolving programme of events.
