The President's Newsletter - October
After a quiet August the Society's activities have recommenced in September. The team has spent a lot of time planning and preparing for our major event of the year, the Annual Dinner on 11 October, which we are looking forward to enormously. The event has sold out and it promises to be a great night. The NLS team looks forward to seeing you there!
Our first event in September was a Money Laundering and Compliance dinner jointly hosted with Amiqus, one of our major sponsors. Amiqus is a market leading compliance platform for legal, recruitment, public sector and financial services. The evening was held at Blackfriars Restaurant in Newcastle and provided Compliance representatives from our member firms with an opportunity for discussion and a sharing of ideas and initiatives. It was an excellent evening which is the first in a series of Compliance related events.
On 19 September ex-President Rob Langley held a seminar at WBD's offices and online titled "A Brave New World of Mediation". It was a very useful update on current developments in this area, many thanks to Rob for sharing his advice and experience.
In October I am looking forward to representing the Society at two events to mark the beginning of the Legal Year. The first is a Special Evensong Service at Newcastle Cathedral on Thursday 3 October. This will be followed by the North Eastern Circuit Annual Legal Service at York Minster on Sunday 13 October. These events provide an excellent opportunity to mark the new Legal Year and celebrate the legal profession in the region.
On 14 October the Business and Property Court in Newcastle is hosting an event at Northumbria University, "Watch this Space – There will be developments". This event is a talk on how our built environment comes to be built, dealing with the practical, technical and legal considerations surrounding property development. The next in our successful series of Managing Partner/Head of Office forums will take place on 16 October at Hay & Kilner in Newcastle. This will be a meeting hosted by The Lawyer magazine and will give us an opportunity to promote the region on a national basis.
The final event we are organising in October is the North East Cyber Crime Seminar on Wednesday 23 October. This event is hosted in conjunction with NORSCA (The Northern Society of Chartered Accountants) and is part of our growing North East LegalTech initiative. Our speakers are from The North East Regional Crime Unit, Northumbria University and Amiqus. Please visit The North East Cyber Crime Seminar - Newcastle Law Society for further information.
