My last report as President!

My aim for my year as President was to achieve "A bigger and better legal sector in the region".  I wanted to build on the great work which my predecessors had achieved and also the fantastic efforts for many years of our previous Director of Operations, Kate Goodings. 

The commencement of my Presidential year coincided with Sanchia Coatsworth taking over the reins from Kate.  I have thoroughly enjoyed working with the team of Sanchia and Andrea to achieve our aim.

We have achieved a great deal including the establishment of a successful series of Managing Partner/Head of Office forums; launch of our LinkedIn page which now has over 500 followers; bi-monthly newsletter; introduction of our LegalTech initiative including the establishment of a Steering Group and hosting 3 seminars; a renewed partnership with The Law Society of England & Wales; hosting of our extremely popular signature events, the Annual Lecture, Summer Party and Annual Dinner; and several online and in-person training courses.

Thank you to Sanchia and Andrea for all of your work; the Standing Committee for your support and contributions; our national Law Society representatives Allan Devine and Guy Goodings; our sponsors who make a lot of what we have achieved possible; our Vice President Paul Brown and Deputy Vice President Lesley Fairclough; and finally our members.  Your support and encouragement has been greatly appreciated. 

A final thank you to the team at LawCare, my President's Charity of the Year.  Mental wellbeing is more important than ever in the legal profession and it has been a privilege to work with the team at LawCare over the last 12 months.  It is a fantastic organisation and I am delighted to announce that we have raised £4,850, every penny of which will go to LawCare. 

The future of our Society is in safe hands and I wish Paul all the best for his year as President.  Being President of Newcastle upon Tyne Law Society has been a tremendous honour and is definitely one of the highlights of my legal career.

I hope we have moved towards a bigger and better legal sector in the North East and look forward to playing my part in advancing this aim in the future.
