NWG Property Solutions
In 2002, Northumbrian Water Property Solutions joined forces with Newcastle Law Society and began a long sponsorship of the Annual Law Dinner. Initially under the stewardship of David Askew, Northumbrian Water's search company took the opportunity to showcase their wares to the local legal profession.
As time went on there was a change of name to NWG Property Solutions and a change of personnel with our introduction to Tonia Reeve, the current manager.
As well as supporting the Dinner, NWG Property Solutions has kindly supported the Presidents' summer parties and charity events at many diverse locations. We have dipped our toes in the waters of HMS Calliope - quite literally as this 'summer party' took place in the great storm of 2012. We watched a cricket match on the beautiful pitch at Longhirst Hall, visited Hexham Abbey, Wallington Hall, Alnwick Gardens both Treehouse and Pavilion, the Baltic Arts Centre, Washington Old Hall and the Ryhope Pumping Station. Their support has helped us provide much needed funds for charities with activities centred in the north east such as Maggie's Cancer Care at the Freeman, local Macmillan nurses, the Millennium Fund for lymphoma research at Newcastle University, the Rainbow Trust, Hearing Dogs for Deaf People and many more.
So as we sit back and celebrate our 20 years association, let's just ponder on whether, in fact, we have known and worked with each other for much longer. In 1854 the Great Fire of Gateshead caused devastating damage along the Quaysides on both sides of the river. In our collection of silverware, now out on permanent loan, you will find the Whittle Dean Water Dish. Steeped in history it has an inscription in Latin on the reverse which translates as: On account of Gateshead - the unfortunate town - being about to perish by fire - and being preserved by the water of Newcastle - George Johnson Kenmir Town Clerk of the perishing town and Richard Lambert Director of the Whittle Dean Water Company gave this votive dish. Mr Kenmir was a President of our Society in 1853, and Mr Lambert in 1856. The Whittle Dean Water Company became part of the Newcastle and Gateshead Water Company and then Northumbrian Water.
